WHAT IS SHIATSU
«The Art of Mindful Touch»
Shiatsu, meaning “finger pressure”, is a form of therapeutic bodywork developed in Japan and is based on the principles of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), the five elements, yin & yang and has been developed further over many years.
Shiatsu takes a holistic view of a person as a unity of body, mind and spirit whose life is shaped by constant processes of change.
The philosophy of Shiatsu is that the life energy (Ki) flows through the entire body in a series of channels called meridians. When we are not in balance on a physical, mental or emotional level, the Ki does not flow evenly in the body. Shiatsu works along the meridians of the body using precise mindful touches, pressure, rotations and stretches to stimulate and balance the Ki. This activates the natural self-healing powers so that tensions and blockages can be released helping you find your natural balance. Shiatsu offers the possibility and the space to perceive yourself and your own body more consciously.
Shiatsu creates a deep feeling of relaxation, strengthening your own natural ability to heal and calm the nervous system.
